One-on-one strength coaching for adults who are tired of guessing. Real programming, real numbers, and a coach who actually looks at your last session before writing the next one. Twelve years coaching. Four hundred-plus clients. Oakland, in person.
For folks who've never lifted, or haven't in years. We build the four lifts from scratch and put real numbers behind them. You'll squat, hinge, push, and pull with confidence by week eight.
The flagship program. Twelve weeks of structured periodization built around your numbers, your schedule, and what you actually want to be strong for. We progress every week. We measure it.
For runners, climbers, and team-sport adults who want to lift heavy without losing the things they love. Strength sessions in the studio, conditioning programmed to fit around your actual schedule.
All sessions are one-on-one in the studio at 4116 Telegraph. Slots fill on a first-come basis — most clients book the same time each week and stay there.
I started coaching in 2013, in a shared garage gym in Berkeley, with a single barbell and four clients who'd all said variations of the same thing — that they wanted to be strong but didn't know where to start. Twelve years later, the studio's larger but the job is exactly the same.
I program every session by hand. I don't sell supplements, I don't run group classes, and I won't tell you to eat clean — I'll tell you to eat enough protein and show up. Most clients stay with me two or three years because the thing they wanted (to feel strong, to not be in pain, to lift their kid into the air without thinking about it) doesn't actually end after twelve weeks.
"I came in thinking I wanted to 'tone up.' Eight months later I deadlift 250, my back doesn't hurt any more, and I'm carrying groceries up three flights without thinking about it. Mason just gets out of the way and lets the work happen."
"I was the runner who 'didn't lift' and was always injured. Mason built a strength block around my mileage, never told me to stop running, and a year later I'm faster and finally not breaking down every spring."
"Two PTs and a chiropractor later, lifting under Mason's programming is the only thing that's actually stuck. He's patient and obsessive about form. I trust him with my back, which is the highest compliment I can give a coach."
Free intro session, in the studio, with a barbell in your hands. You'll know within twenty minutes whether we're a fit.
