Books open · Q3 opens 14 June Kreuzberg, Berlin Est. 2017 Three artists · Appointment only

Slow, considered tattooing.

Midnight Ink is a three-artist appointment-only studio on Skalitzer Straße, working in fine line, neo-traditional, and dense blackwork. We open books once a quarter and we don't accept walk-ins.

— 01 / About

Three artists, one room.

Midnight Ink opened in 2017 in a small back room off Skalitzer Straße. We moved across the courtyard to the current space in 2021. There are three of us — Tamsin, Otto, and Nuray — and we share the studio without a manager, a receptionist, or a single piece of corporate signage.

We work by appointment only. Books open once a quarter, on the dates posted on the home page. Each of us takes about eighty pieces a year. The waitlist is not a list — it's an open request window that closes after 96 hours, and we read every submission.

We will not tattoo you on your first attempt. We probably won't tattoo your friend's idea, either. What we will do is design something carefully, talk it through with you over a 45-minute consultation, and then bring it to skin once it's right.

— 03 / The three of us

Three styles, three artists.

Each artist takes their own consultations and manages their own books. The studio is shared; the work is not collaborative.

— 04 / How it works

Five steps, about three months apart.

We open requests once a quarter. The dates are posted on the home page. You submit through the form below — there is no DM, email, or Instagram booking. We read everything and we reply to everything, including the no's.

  1. Request window opens. 96 hours, four times a year. Submit through the form with reference images, body location, and timeframe.
  2. Review. Each artist picks the requests they want to take. We reply to every submission within two weeks, including declines.
  3. Consultation. A 45-minute paid consultation in studio (€60, deducted from your final piece). We talk through the idea, agree on size and placement, and sketch the first iteration.
  4. Design. The artist takes 2-4 weeks to finalise the design. You see one round of revisions; we don't redesign from scratch.
  5. Session. Booked 6-10 weeks after the consultation. Half-day or full-day depending on scope.

A €120 deposit secures your spot. The deposit is non-refundable but transferable to a friend up to two weeks before the session. We are deliberately strict on this — we lose two full days a month to last-minute cancellations.

What we don't do: Walk-ins, same-day tattoos, white-ink only, finger tattoos, hand tattoos as a first piece, face tattoos, anyone under 18.

We do not match prices, give "friend rates", or do tattoos for exposure. We're a small studio and our hours are scarce; we charge what allows us to keep being small.

— 05 / The studio

One door off Skalitzer.

The studio is on the second floor of a Hinterhaus on Skalitzer Straße — through the courtyard, up one flight, the door with the small black square. There is no signage and the buzzer says only "Croft". The space is two rooms: a front room with a sofa and a kettle, and a working room with the chairs.

If you have a booking you'll have the door code by email. If you don't have a booking, please don't come up — we genuinely can't help you at the door, and the other artists are working. Submit through the request window. We promise it's the fastest route.

A few things worth saying out loud.

// 01

No walk-ins, ever.

Every piece we do is designed for that person. We can't make that happen in a half-hour, so we don't try.

// 02

18+, with ID.

We don't tattoo minors, with or without parental consent. Bring a government-issued ID to your consultation.

// 03

Bring water, eat.

Eat properly two hours before. Bring water, a snack, and something to do with your hands. We provide blankets.

// 04

No alcohol, no blood thinners.

For 24 hours before. Aspirin and ibuprofen count. Paracetamol is fine. Coffee is fine, in moderation.

// 05

One person with you.

The waiting room fits a partner, a friend, or a parent. Please not more.

// 06

Aftercare matters.

Our aftercare instructions are on the receipt; please follow them. We touch up for free in the first 90 days if needed.
